Backup Perplexity threads

Perplexity threads often mix answers, sources, and follow-ups. That’s valuable research history — and it’s fragile if it only lives in the web app.

When to backup

  • Before switching plans or accounts
  • After a deep research sprint you may cite later
  • If you use Perplexity alongside ChatGPT/Claude and want one archive location

Backup with TotalRecalls

TotalRecalls treats Perplexity as a first-class provider on Windows:

  1. Open TotalRecalls → choose Perplexity
  2. Sign in locally when asked
  3. Export threads to your Library folder

What you get on disk

Each conversation is stored as files you can open offline — typically Markdown for reading and JSON for structure. That’s the difference between “I have a zip somewhere” and “I can find that answer.”

Be a good citizen

Use your own account, respect Perplexity’s terms, and don’t hammer servers. TotalRecalls keeps conservative pacing for that reason.
